Tiny Incisions, Big Benefits
Laparoscopic Ovariectomy offers a minimally invasive approach, resulting in less postoperative pain and a quicker return to normal activities for your canine companions. The smaller incisions reduce the risk of postoperative complications, such as infections or incisional hernias, ensuring a smoother recovery process.
During the laparoscopic procedure, the abdomen is gently inflated with carbon dioxide to allow clear visualization of the abdominal vessels. Two small incisions (5-12mm) are made, through which a camera (videoscope) and surgical instruments are inserted. A laparoscopic vessel sealer is used to safely ligate the ovarian blood vessels, and the ovaries are then removed through the larger incision.
Laparoscopic techniques provide superior visualization of the surgical field, enabling surgeons to perform precise and thorough removal of the ovaries with minimal tissue trauma, resulting in less postoperative pain.
Dogs undergoing laparoscopic ovariectomy typically recover faster than those who have traditional open surgeries, allowing them to quickly return to their regular routines and activities.
Our highly trained veterinary team is dedicated to ensuring your pet’s comfort and safety throughout the entire process. From preoperative assessments to postoperative care, our staff is committed to providing compassionate and attentive care. Proficiency in laparoscopic techniques requires specialized training and experience, which may limit the availability of this option to certain veterinary practitioners. We are proud to offer this advanced surgical option to our patients, utilizing specialized equipment, including a dedicated autoclaving unit for sterilization.
While rare, laparoscopic procedures do carry inherent risks such as inadvertent organ injury, bleeding, or gas embolism. This makes thorough preoperative assessment and vigilant intraoperative management crucial. In some cases, the procedure may need to be converted to a traditional approach if complications arise. Rest assured, our team is well-prepared to handle any situation, prioritizing your pet’s well-being at every step.
