Your veterinarian may recommend tonometry if your pet:
- is a senior
- has a breed predisposition to glaucoma
- has diabetes
- has hypothyroidism
- has other chronic eye conditions or injuries
- has severe eye pain
We can measure intraocular pressure, or the pressure inside the eye, using tonometry equipment. We utilize a Tono-Pen, a portable gadget shaped like a giant marker, to measure this pressure. A digital readout of the force being applied to the eye is provided.
Glaucoma, a frequent and painful condition marked by elevated fluid pressure inside the eye, is diagnosed using tonometry. It frequently damages the visual nerve, resulting in tunnel vision and even blindness. The key to preventing long-term visual problems is early identification.
