Dr. Katharine Chan joined SVA in May 2025. She grew up in San Diego but earned her bachelor’s degree in Biology from the University of Pennsylvania. She then returned to California and graduated with honors from the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine in 2009. She moved to Seattle in 2010 after completing a 1-year rotating internship in small animal medicine, surgery, and emergency at a referral practice in San Diego. Although originally planning a career in emergency medicine, Dr. Chan found a love of general practice at her first job as an associate vet. She relishes in forming a connection with both her patients and their owners and is committed to providing collaborative care. She has a special interest in client education, internal medicine, preventative care, low-stress handling, and all things related to cats.
Dr. Chan shares a home in Seattle with her husband, two daughters, their dog (Fillmore), and a couple aquariums. When she’s not at work, she enjoys spending time with her family and friends, helping out with her daughter’s Girl Scout troop, reading, discovering new food/drink offerings, and traveling.
